Lucie is a 6 metre sloop designed by Clinton Crane in New York in 1930. It was built in 1931 at the Nevin's Yard on Long Island for Briggs Cunningham. Over the years the stern was cut off, the entire boat was fiberglassed.........essentially vinyl sided.

The plan is to patch it together this year (a little more vinyl siding), put in the rig and try sailing it for a few weeks. There will be some other six metres around during the time of the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta. We plan to race in those with various skippers from the Thunderhead contingent.

Next fall, all of the fiberglass will be stripped, we'll see what we've got......and rebuild from there. We have the original lines drawings, sail plan, offsets etc....so it will be a complete and accurate restoration.

When I was at Rumery's Boat Yard, I watched otherwise totally rational and intelligent men lose touch with reality when they got around boats...wooden boats especially....luckily this has never happened to me.
